Tweet I can't remember a player ever having the kind of season Kyle Quincey is having. I imagine that every play he makes is like like the old cartoon Angel & Devil siting on his shoulder giving him play options, and he just picks one of their suggestions at random every time. (By the way, in this scenario The Angel is obviously wearing his Avs sweater, and the Devil is wearing the jersey of the...

Tweet Now that we know how long Budaj will be the #1 for a little while. Can we please, please, please not analyze every single Goal Against like we're trying to break a secret Nazi military code. I realize Budaj's the most polarizing Av on the roster these days. Sometimes NHL goalies give up stoppable goals. Sometimes NHL goalies give up completely normal goals. Not every single goal is an indictment of Budaj's abilities, and...

Tweet Sometimes it's easy to see the trees and miss the forest, but the Avs are actually playing pretty decent hockey, with a couple of notable exceptions *cough* Special Teams *cough*. (Avs gave up another PK goal tonight). Last season the Avs biggest problem gave up a LOT of shots on 5 vs 5, and conversely didn't take a lot of shots 5 vs 5. 5 vs 5 their Shots for /60 was 3rd worst...

Tweet For those who haven't heard there's reports that the Avs are looking to trade a defenseman. During the Detroit game last week  USA today and others (including I believe Dater.) reported that there were 16 scouts scouting the Avs-Les Ailes game last week, and rumors abound that the Avs were looking to trade a defenseman. Then against the Rangers the Avs suited up 7 defensemen (which I normally don't like, but the 7 defensemen...

Tweet I was going to write a post this week about how this season's Avs are now winning a new way, by controlling play and getting more shots than the other team. They were clearly as worried about shot totals and, yes, Corsi as we were last season. I had a big post all lined up about how there was obviously a renewed commitment to trying to control play and get pucks on net, and...

Tweet It's an unfair gift I have, but every year I have the ability to see a year into the future and see the events of the hockey season as they unfold. I know some people want a surprise, but I am going to go ahead and ruin it for you by spilling the beans on all the major events of the upcoming season. So we'll dive right in, the following events are exactly how...

Tweet Over on Mile High Hockey today I contributed to the post talking about why the Avs attendance has slipped. I touched on the Avs marketing, or lack thereof, and I wanted to expand on it a little more. Think of this as an accompaniment to the Roundtable question. We've joked a million times about the Avs marketing department, but there's a lot of truth to that. Last year the slogan was (insert random action...

Tweet As many of you probably know by now, The 1995-1996 Colorado Avalnche, coached by one Marc Crawford, will be reunited at opening night to celebrate the Cup Winning Avalanche (I assume there will be something Opening night, Oct. 7th. Dater doesn't say specifically, but even Avs management isn't stupid enough to not have something that night for the fans.) Unfortunately, the big understory for this game is the return of Marc Crawford, the guy...

Tweet Here's my thoughts/observations on the Burgundy/White game: - I got to see live NHL caliber hockey tonight. Awesome. - Hey Mr. Colossal Cranium: there are people to the side and in front of you, lean back in your seat a little! - Sorry to any and all I could have met up with but didn't, the decision to go was last-second.   Addendum: Added Duchene's shootout goal, thanks to youtube user: (westhoff0407) More After...
