Tweet I know a lot of people are looking behind the bench for a change, and feel the losing is on him. But, for me, the biggest reason the Avs are losing is on one guy, but it’s not SaccoIt’s the guy we traded a 1st round pick for: Semyon Varlamov. The guy has been abysmal, and again he just gave up another 6 goal night. Here’s some statsHe has a save% of .890 (32nd...

Tweet When a team is in the middle of a dry spell on goals, and losing, one of the most common theories thrown out there by fans trying to explain the inability to hit the twine is the infamous “Shooting low percentage shots from the perimeter” reason. Recently the Avs have been snake bit for goals, despite heavy numbers of shots. More than one person has suggested that the Avs aren’t getting good shots and...

Tweet In this young season, no two Avs players have been on separate sides of the same coin more than rookie Gabriel Landeskog and 20-year old Matt Duchene. Duchene is struggling, while Landeskog is flourishing. It’s early and both players could have a reversal of fortune, but there’s a huge difference in the two’s approach early in the season that I think is accounting for the difference.I actually didn’t notice Duchene’s poor season at first,...

Tweet Leafs fans and Avs fans had quite a kerfuffle before the game over at Mile High Hockey.  Most of it was a pissing match, but one comment caught my eye. Chemmy (an editor and chief over at Pension Plan Puppet- A hilarious Leafs Blog)made a comment that the Winnik-O’Reilly-Landeskog line was being protected. I didn’t think that was true, so I did some basic research. Then another of the Leafs minions mentioned matchups. After...

Tweet We’re two games into the season and it’s really easy to take these two games and over-analyze them…. butI really really like this team (so far). The Avs have come out of the gates flying. Yeah, they are 1-1, but I think they have played really played well so far, despite only scoring one goal on the season. But, in my biased opinion the Avs have also won at least 4 of the periods they...

Tweet Here’s the thing: I probably won’t do an Eastern Conference Preview this season. I just don’t follow all the teams there well enough to have informed opinions about them. And frankly, who cares. I follow The Avs and the West.I’m looking at possesion numbers from last season, so I’ll post the link to goaltenders Corsi with the score close (+/-1) here. I reference them a lot below. So here’s my Western Conference Preview:15) Minnesota Wild...

Tweet So many of you may have noticed that the blog has been a bit slow lately. Well part of that was that it was the dog days of summer (August, yuck) and part of that was it has been a busy summer for me, but a large part of that has just been a lack of commitment to writing. Well With the Avs season nearly underway it’s time to change that and start writing...

Tweet Let’s get this out there now: I can skate. I learned on my own going to public skates a few times a year and rollerblading at the park near my folks house. I can go a decent (if not blazing) speed. I taught myself how to crossover and can cross my right over my left well and left over right ok. (Most public skates go counter-clockwise so I’ve practiced a lot more that direction.)...

Tweet It’s been a while since I posted, but it’s summer vacation. Training camp for hockey starts soon, which means that maybe something will bump Tim Tebow off the sports pages. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAI know, I couldn’t hold a straight face after that either. Anyways, over the summer I actually read a lot. One book I read was 1861: A Civil War awakening by Adam Goodheart. It was a very good book, albeit not the one I’m...

Tweet Fellow Bloguin member Days of Y’Orr (A very funny Bruins Blog) did some concept art for the Avs, as part of their ongooing series of re-imaging the NHL.  I provided them feedback on their Avs designs. So far they have also done:The Sabres (good)The ‘Yotes (pretty good, although they need a red primary, we all know how I feel about black sweaters)The Isles (good - love the alternate logo)The Thrashers (good, yet defunct) The...
